We first went to Sizzle Pie on our trip to Portland a year ago, but this was our first time having it since living in Portland. Sizzle Pie has lots of meat, vegetarian, and vegan pizzas. They focus on non-traditional toppings and flavors. You can build your own with a ton of sauce and fake meat options, or get one of their signature pizzas.

We made our own last time we were there, but this time we got the Buffalo 666, a buffalo jackfruit vegan pie. It seemed like an obvious choice since we both love everything buffalo and because we’ve been wanting to try jackfruit. Lately, more and more people are talking about and using jackfruit as a meat substitute. Unlike most fake meats that are made of soy or wheat, this is a naturally occurring fruit which has a meat-like texture and consistency. At first, it was weird to be eating something that seemed so meal-like, but it tasted really good. There was also a vegan ranch sauce on top which, when combined with the buffalo sauce, made for a great combination.

The breadsticks were just as good as the pizza. They came with three sauces, one being the house red and the other two of our choice. We opted for Cilantro and Pepitas Vegan Pesto and Spicy Aardvark Blended Red. It was a great way to try different flavors, and we couldn’t decide which was the best since they were all so good.

While visiting Portland, Oregon, I just had to check out Sizzle Pie, a pizzeria that I’d heard offered loads of vegan options. Not having had pizza since swearing off animal-products (3 years ago!!), my mouth watered as soon as we walked in the front door.
My sister and I were overwhelmed with options, but finally decided. We savored the giant wedges and crooned over the crispy crust, fresh veg, olives, and 100%-vegan-ricotta.
Never had anything tasted so good!! I will be dreaming about that pizza for many years to come… And hey, if you’re in Portland, check it out!! You’ll enjoy a sizzling pie that you’ll never forget!!

They rocked it for vegan options. And gluten free. They even asked “do you want Daiya, or just no cheese?” What a good question1 But seriously, throw the Daiya all over it.
