I tried being an adult today but it just didn’t work out.

Went to open a checking account. After a long wait they finally called me up. They told me if I made my initial deposit with my paycheck I wouldn’t be able to take money out until monday, so suggested I go to bank of america (the bank that my employer is based at) to cash the check, then come back and open an account with the money. So I go to Bank Of America and cash the check. Then I go back to the credit union where I’m opening the account and sit back down with a representative. I’m all ready to get started and she asks for my ID. she then informs me that to open an account I need an ID showing my current Philadelphia address (I still have my Ohio ID) but lets me know that a mile away there’s a licence bureau office where I can get it changed over. So I walk the mile. I show up and wait in line and finally get to the desk where they tell me that in order to do this I need my birth certificate, and not the copy that I had with me but rather the actual thing, which I can’t have until at least a week for now. No checking account today. I then walked another mile and a half, sat down, and decided that if I wasn’t doing adult things today I would do kid things and eat too much food.
(Left to right) Eggplant Parm grinder, triple chocolate brownie, Haymaker pizza. All vegan at Blackbird Pizzeria on 6th in Philly between Lombard and South.

Vegan Pizza from Blackbird Pizzeria on S. 6th Street in Philly
FUN FACT: vegan cheez tastes more like cheese than cheese does.
Not pictured: Incredible caesar salad with fucking DEEP FRIED CAPERS.
Best food I’ve eaten in quite a while.

Road trip: Blackbird Pizzeria in Philly!
I was in Philly again, because it seems I’m always in Philly again—it’s that dang Bolt Bus! So cheap and easy! I like my buses like I like my women. On the other hand, I like my men like I like my sandwiches: vegan and cheesy. Lucky for me, everyone in Philly was talking about this new vegan pizza spot Blackbird! And Blackbird, it turns out, has one of the best vegan cheesesteaks in the city. And you know I’m an expert.
My sis went to Blackbird with me and she got the chickpea salad sandwich (pictured left). She was totally into it! She said she might have to get it even when I’m not around—high praise from an omnivore. Back to the cheesesteak! In the parlance of my youth, it was BANGING! It comes with peppers, onions, and mushrooms so if you are crazy and don’t want that stuff, say something. Lately people in Philly keep serving me mushrooms that are clearly from a can! WTF? Don’t they know who I am?! Blackbird is not using canned mushrooms, I can tell you that. The seitan is sliced very thinly, like a real cheesesteak would be (or at least a quality one). And the cheese is Daiya,* which I have been down on lately, but this sandwich revitalized my taste for it! The Daiya was all up in there; it was a gooey delicious mess. I loved this sandwich! It gets 5 out of 5 Veganstaurs! I almost went back that night and got another but I took the bus to New York instead: WRONG DECISION.
Things I want to do next time: try their yukon gold pizza! It’s pizza topped with potatoes! PIZZA topped with POTATOES. Did I stutter?! Amazing. They also had vegan whoopie pies—pumpkin and chocolate—I’ve GOT to get one of those next time. And next time I will not let bus schedules dictate my dinner! Vegan cheesesteaks all around!
*Has everyone else heard this rumor that Daiya is releasing a pepper jack next month? Exciting!
Old but not stale!

12/1 Blackbird Pizzeria during day trip to Philly!
BFF and I went to Philadelphia for the day two weeks ago. I know I’m super late at posting this but I’ve been busy. After missing the 8:30 a.m. bus we were supposed to take because I was late, we got on a 9:15 a.m. bus and got there around 11. This lady that was sitting across from us and listening in on our conversation recommended that we get off at 6th Ave, which is more of the historic Philadelphia. This was not such a bad idea because Blackbird was in this area, but later on we kind of regretted it because we didn’t really explore outside of the historic area. We kind got a little lost finding Blackbird, but walking around looking at the nice apartments, we were like, we could so live here and commute to New York, lol. I’ve been meaning look at their rent prices.
Once we found the pizzeria we were so excited, and hungry! I ordered a pepperoni slice and seitan wings, BFF ordered a cheese slice and seitain philly cheese steak and we shared. Yum yum yum! The pizza and cheese steak were fantastic! Though, honestly, neither of us were big fans of the wings. They were okay, but sauce on it was strange. I nibbled on some later, and they tasted a little better cold, but eventually I gave them away to a homeless person.
We stopped back before we left because I wanted to get a pie to bring home so Bf could have some. I got a small Haymaker pie on a recommendation (will be in its own post), and a fungi slice. It was nice, but I overall preferred the pepperoni.
Once back home, I had a slice of the Haymaker, which I really liked. My mother yoinked two slices. And BF had the rest the next day.
Nevermind me just slowly being consumed by jealousy over here.

Went to Pittsburgh yesterday to see Hollow Earth with some cool people. Stopped at Spak Brother’s Pizza before the show. Pizza with mozzarella Daiya, green peppers, and portobella mushrooms and barbecue seitan wings with vegan ranch. There are a lot more than three when you order them, I was just too hungry to remember to take a picture when they came out.
