anitivoni asked: oh lord you knew this. I'm so silly. just trying to spread the vegan word as always
No, that’s great, I love your enthusiasm!
anitivoni asked: galaxy is now go veggie just so you know! so you won't see the name galaxy on the shelves anymore unless you look at the fine print on go veggie
quantumstarlight asked: Yes, all the GO! Veggie stuff in purple packaging is clearly labeled as vegan. They make other non-vegan cheeses but the ones in purple packages are definitely vegan.

That reminds me, I have some galaxy cream cheese in need of eating.
water--nymph asked: Careful with the GO veggie cheese, I've heard that it has casein in it :/ Unless there is two different kinds...
Unless I’m mistaken, Go Veggie is just a rebranding of Galaxy Foods’ existing product line; the rice and “regular” cheese isn’t vegan, but the other stuff is. Galaxy looks like it’s good about clearly labeling its vegan products, but of course, always read the labels for yourself!
quantumstarlight asked: For some reason the GO! Veggie cheese is the cheapest around here — $3.99 vs. $4.50 or higher for FYH or Daiya. So I like it for that reason too. Other than their Soymage Parmesan, I haven't had any of Galaxy's other cheese in forever (since the vegan dark ages of the mid-2000s) but I like their new stuff a lot!
Nice! I’ll pick up a bag if I ever see it in the store.
quantumstarlight asked: Galaxy's GO Veggie! vegan cheese is good too. It melts faster than most others and it re-congeals after it cools a little. I've used their mozzarella and Mexican on pizza with good success.
Wow, it’s been ages since I’ve tried Galaxy brand cheese. Maybe I should give it another try? I looove their parmesan! (Mega pricey though.)

I went back and got the rest of the Mexican-flavored Go Veggie! (Galaxy) Vegan Shreds they had at Sweetbay (9 bags!) and it was delicious on this pizza (made with Publix dough, Muir Glen Garlic Roasted Garlic sauce, mushrooms, and homemade seitan, as usual!).

Product review: Galaxy Nutritional Foods’ new vegan mozzarella shreds!
Here ye! Here ye! There is a new vegan cheese shred contender! Galaxy Nutritional Foods sent me their new vegan shreds to try and last night I made English muffin pizzas with the mozzarella shreds. They aren’t just dairy-free, they’re soy-, gluten- and preservative-free, plus they’re non-GMO. The color is not white, like dairy mozzarella; it’s a bit orange. But it smells like mozzarella, and as you can see from the picture above, it totally melts. Like, super-melts—it bubbles and stuff! Very nice consistency. As for flavor, survey says: yum! It’s good! I can’t really deal with Daiya mozzarella anymore so I’ve been off the English muffin pizzas. But now I’m back, baby!
They also sent me the Mexican shreds, so stay tuned, I should have a review later in the week. I’m thinking quesadillas? The mozzarella is so melty, I have high hopes for the Mexican shreds. Maybe quesadillas AND nachos?! Who can say? It’s my world! As for where you can find these shreds, it’s limited:
They say you should encourage your local store to start carrying them, and you should, because this stuff is hella melty and a great alternative if you aren’t into Daiya. I’m excited for nachos!
My husband insisted on shaping my dough into the shape of a heart and then I loaded it up with tomato basil sauce, broccoli, sauteed mushrooms, Daiya mozzarella, fresh basil, a sprinkling of Galaxy Foods’ parmesan, cloves of roasted garlic, and brushed the crust with olive oil and herbs. It was my best work yet! And I washed it all down with a giant piece of vegan chocolate cake from Whole Foods.

Vegan taco pizza, made by my own little hands. Whole wheat crust, black bean hummus, taco seasoned Boca crumbles, taco sauce, Galaxy vegan Mexican shreds, a light sprinkling of Daiya pepperjack shreds, onion, bellpepper, roasted red peppers. With fresh butter lettuce and fresh tomatoes for toppings. Mmm. :)
Ugh, this looks tasty.

Vegan pizza: mushrooms, red peppers, onions, spinach, LightLife pepperoni, and Galaxy mozzarella on whole wheat crust, sprinkled with Galaxy grated parmesan. Mmm! This is our first time trying Galaxy, and as much as I like Daiya, I think I prefer Galaxy. I like the way it melts.
Color me intrigued.
