fuck yeah vegan pizza

reblogged from lizzie-kate:

One of my best friends/favorite travel companion Laura is in Milwaukee. Tomorrow (err, today depending on when queue publishes this, we will be hitting the road for a mini-road trip, so grateful.)

Since Laura’s been in Milwaukee, we have hit Classic Slice for vegan slices (mine had Follow Your Heart mozzarella, broccoli, pineapple & green peppers), split a vegan cupcake and watched a mini-marathon of Parks and Recreations. Grateful for such amazing, lovely friends and look forward to embarking on some adventures in the morning.

I love everything in this post. (Except for the splitting of the cupcake. Kelly doesn’t share food!)

Garlic Basil Buttery Sauce. Tofu Ricotta. Follow Your Heart Mozzarella. Tomato. Broccoli.
Most necessary after biking 30 miles today to The Menzingers. Watched The Office and stuffed my face. Good day.

idk about y’all, but I’d say that biking 30 miles entitles you to a dozen of these babies! Egads.

NPR wants to “crack the code” of vegan cheese analogs!

Datsa my pizza! I’m famous! Also: suddenly craving mac & cheese like a mofo. (Okay, I was already craving it. Since last Friday. You got me!) I may also have sprouted a Super Mario ‘stache while channeling my cheesy inner Italian.

What’s your favorite vegan cheese, people? Discuss! I’m partial to the liquid meltiness of mozzarella Follow Your Heart, BUT. It doesn’t freeze well (post-freezer, it gets all crumbly and refuses to cook; but strangely, this only happens to the mozz, not the cheddar. weird right?), so usually we stick with Daiya, which is totally freeze-able. Daiya’s delish too, no complaints there.

I’m super-curious about all these international cheeses hitting the markets though. Mozzarisella and vegusto vegan cheese come to mind, but maybe there are more? Tell us UK vegans, we need to know!

reblogged from vegansaurus:

Rachel Estabrook at NPR’s The Salt blog gets into the science of vegan cheese analogs, and poses some interesting questions. Why are we so obsessed with making some vegan cheeses behave exactly like casein-ful animal’s milk cheese? How are food scientists working on replicating this “hold onto itself and then lightly let go and then hold onto itself” action that makes dairy cheese melt? Which company has been the most successful so far, and who else is trying?

That answer is illustrated by this photo of Easy Vegan Info’s mac & cheese pizza with Daiya (here’s her recipe, I know what you really want). Yes, according to vegan cheese code-crackers, Daiya makes the best meltable vegan cheese on the market. Being a hardcore Follow Your Heart fan, I take issue with this assertion as nonsense, but also Daiya is a total gutbomb for me and I don’t eat it.* To each her own!

Maybe this new line of shredded vegan cheeses from Galaxy Natural Foods will be the melting vegan cheese that unites us on such a divisive subject. Has anyone tried it yet? It was supposed to be out in April and it’s already May! Give us our new toy, already.

If you want to discuss your mos beloved/despised vegan cheeses here, please feel free. Category is: It melts!

*OK I might make an exception for this beauty.

I love pizza. first time making whole-wheat crust! plus I added rosemary for some pizzaz. topped it with basil and sun dried tomato sauce, garlic, arugula, mushrooms, kalamata olives, and follow your heart vegan monterey jack cheese. YUM. washed it down with homemade kombucha.

Three, foot-long pizzas from Pala, New York City. From closest to the camera to furthest away:
The Asparagi (Field Roast Italian veggie sausage, asparagus, cherry tomato sauce and Daiya cheese)
The Etna (eggplant, cherry tomato sauce, Daiya cheese/FYH soy mozzarella blend and basil)
The Funghi e Salsiccia (Field Roast veggie sausage, field mushrooms, Daiya cheese and hot pepper)
I think I just had a vegasm, especially for that Asparagi number. Which one would you get?

All of the above?

I harvested dill from my front porch container garden and added it to the crust. I used organic basil and sun dried tomato sauce and added portobello mushrooms, broccoli, and snow peas. Then, I topped it off with Follow Your Heart Monterey Jack. YUM! Washed it down with my home brew apple cider.
[You people, so crafty with your garden-fresh dill and home-brewed cider! Come and live with me! This genius is via pipperipembo, btw. - ed.]

Made pizza tonight because I ran out of time yesterday which is a bummer because that makes it pizza MONDAY instead of Pizza Sunday Forever. I screwed up my weekly pizza eating schedule!
A friend gave me this pre-made pizza dough so I have no idea how much it cost. It’s topped with pizza squeeze, by brothers home-made canned jalapenos, mushrooms, pineapple, Daiya cheddar, Follow Your Heart mozz, and basil.
I already ate 2/3 of it all by myself.

[No Pizza Sunday? Shhhh! I won’t tell if you don’t! From learning vegan, of course! - ed.]

Can you tell I burned it lol
It was actually really depressing I frantically ran into the kitchen sliding across the floor (ninja style) and opening to oven to see that it was left in way too long.
But I still ate it…just not the crust. I liked the cheese I used this time because I hate diaya. It’s called Vegan Gourmet and it’s the mozzarella. I’m gonna go have another slice :)
Ellen A.
P.S. The dough is actually Pillsbury and accidentally vegan <3

HATE DAIYA!?!

Just joking! Follow Your Heart is pretty damn good too. Plus I’m a vegan who mostly hates tofu, so glass house, meet stones.

Vegan Panhandle Pizza!
Tried Panhandle Pizza (just north of the panhandle in SF) for the first time today. Not sure why I’ve never been in there and I’ve lived within 5 blocks of it for a year and a half.
For 10 bucks, you can get a personal vegan pizza with two toppings and follow your heart vegan cheese! a lil pricey, but what the hell isn’t in this city. I got artichoke and sun dried tomatos. nom.

Just tried the Bold Organics frozen vegan pizza I picked up yesterday. It was way smaller than I was expecting. While not thin crust like Tofurky it was much more compact. The pros would be the crust and seasoning. The cons would be size and not enough sauce.

Tofurky, Amy’s, American Harvest, Rossini’, Bold Organics - methinks it’s time for a taste test!
