fuck yeah vegan pizza

It’s here, it’s here! The second annual PPK 100 is here! It was co-written by Katie of Don’t Eat Off the Sidewalk and our Laura, hooray!
Go check it out and count how many of these 100 (technically 99 plus 1 reader’s choice) you’ve enjoyed! I’ve got … a number! I don’t know, there are too many to assess right now, it just came out! (Special hello to my true love, umeboshi paste.)

Needs more pizza!

i have a new favorite pizza place in los angeles and it’s called pizzanista. not only is their vegan pie unreal, but they regularly stock vegan slices! for toppings they’ve got good stuff like daiya cheese, and three different fake meats made by my favorite seitan company, upton’s naturals. CHECK IT. and hit up the little bear down the road for some beers beforehand. perfect night.

I want to go there.

FATTY GIRL ADVENTURES

Destination: PIZZANISTA

Did somebody say vegan pizza BY THE SLICE? Wait…and for $2 dolllars!? This all sounded too good to be true so I decided to check out “$2 Dollar Tuesdays” at Pizzanista for myself.

The neighborhood is in a slightly desolate part of downtown but don’t let that scare you. This place is super cool! The space was surprisingly cozy (yet grungy) with brick walls. Everyone was really nice and I love the punked out vibe to it. It’s also right beside Tony’s Saloon who I hear makes a mean Moscow Mule (I’ll be the judge of that). I also just learned that it’s owned by American professional skateboarder Salman Agah who we actually saw during our visit. (More cool points for this place. Now it’s all making sense!)

Now…to the pizza. I ordered 2 slices of the vegan pizza topped with daiya cheese and was pleasantly surprised as to how huge these slices were! The pizza reminded me of that classic NY style…thin, wide, foldable pizza with a slightly charred crust. It was delicious and I was sad to have gotten so full so fast. I paid $4 bucks for 2 HUGE slices. We loved it so much that we went back on Thursday and paid full price! My only complaint is that I wish they had a vegan caesar salad option. I also hope that they consider having gluten free crust options in the future.

Cruzer Pizza in Los Feliz is still number one on my list but this doesn’t fall too far behind. I’ll definitely be back.

Ugh to live near $2 a slice vegan pizza. LIVING THE DREAM.

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD. pizzanista in downtown LA is offering an extra special pizza on saturday for vegan pizza day, and it needs to be worshipped! it’s a vegan version of their popular “meat jesus” pizza, so naturally this one is called the “seitan meats jesus”. it comes with daiya cheese and 3 different kinds of upton’s seitan: italian sausage, pepperoni, and bacon. AMEN TO THAT. go eat it.
PS: upton’s seitan products really are the best, and i don’t know of any other restaurant that uses them in LA. just another reason to go nom on this pizza, as if you needed one!
